Chiefs and Raiders Battle for AFC West Lead
The Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, both 3-0, are clashing in a pivotal AFC West game. Patrick Mahomes aims to extend his dominant 13-2 record

The Kansas City Chiefs have drawn level with the Las Vegas Raiders in a significant AFC West showdown, after quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Tyquan Thornton for a touchdown. This score followed an early lead established by the Raiders, described as "dark horses" of the season, when Kirk Cousins found tight end Ian Thomas with a deep ball, marking a "cracking start for the black and silver," according to The Guardian. The Chiefs’ equalising drive saw Mahomes find Xavier Worthy for a 41-yard gain, despite two goal-line stops by the Raiders defence.

Pivotal Divisional Showdown

Both the Chiefs and the Raiders entered this week four fixture with unbeaten 3-0 records, making the outcome critical for early control of the AFC West division. The winner will advance to 4-0, solidifying their position at the top. The game, taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, pits two high-performing teams against each other with significant implications for the AFC and the NFL as a whole, Rolling Stone reported.

Mahomes’ Dominance Against Raiders

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes arrived in Las Vegas looking to extend his considerable mastery over the Raiders and the AFC West division. According to NBC Sports research, Mahomes boasts a career record of 13-2 against the Raiders, throwing 36 touchdown passes against just five interceptions in 15 games. His road record against the Raiders is particularly impressive, standing at 7-0 with 20 touchdown passes and two interceptions. Overall against AFC West rivals, Mahomes has a 37-8 record, representing an 82.2 per cent winning rate – the best for any quarterback since the NFL merger with a minimum of 25 starts.

Raiders’ Remarkable Turnaround

The Las Vegas Raiders are enjoying one of their most impressive starts in decades, following a disappointing 3-14 finish last season. Their current 3-0 record points to a significant turnaround, largely attributed to the contributions of new defensive coordinator Rob Leonard, head coach Klint Kubiak, and quarterback Kirk Cousins, Rolling Stone highlighted. The Chiefs, too, appear to have rebounded from a recent slump, with Mahomes returning to "pre-injury form", Kenneth Walker III accumulating substantial rushing yards, and Steve Spagnuolo’s defence maintaining control.

Other NFL Action

Elsewhere in Week Four of the NFL, there were several notable results. The New England Patriots delivered a major upset by beating the Buffalo Bills, ending Buffalo’s perfect record. In the NFC North, the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers both secured wins, while the Minnesota Vikings drew first blood against the Miami Dolphins. The Denver Broncos established an early lead over the San Francisco 49ers, who turned over on downs near midfield. The Seattle Seahawks also capitalised on a Chargers muffed punt to take the lead.
