David Ginola questions Tottenham players' respect for De
Tottenham cult hero David Ginola has voiced concerns over whether players respect manager Roberto De Zerbi as the team sits bottom of the league.

Ginola concerned by Tottenham’s start

Former Tottenham player David Ginola has described the club’s start to the season as “not acceptable”, raising doubts over whether the players respect manager Roberto De Zerbi. As they prepared for a Premier League game against Coventry City, Spurs were at the foot of the table, having secured only three points from their opening six matches. The team had scored just three goals, their second-lowest tally at that stage in history. Despite a slight improvement in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, their winless run continued, keeping them in the relegation zone.

Speaking to Football London, Ginola, who was a Tottenham cult hero, stated that while De Zerbi has quality, the players need to follow his instructions and understand his tactical approach. “Does he get the respect from the players? Do the players listen to what he’s saying? I’m not sure about that,” Ginola said. “This is a key thing for Spurs.”

Ginola emphasised the importance of players showing more energy in games and training, and putting more pressure on themselves to perform. “If they respect themselves, they need to do more. They need to add more,” he added.

He suggested that the players need to enjoy their jobs more and foster a stronger sense of togetherness in the dressing room, as he believes this is where games are won. “Spurs doesn’t deserve this position. They deserve more respect,” Ginola commented, referencing his own time at the club when flair players were expected to entertain while winning.

De Zerbi under pressure

Ginola acknowledged that De Zerbi is under significant pressure, particularly with the team fighting for survival when higher expectations were anticipated. “De Zerbi is under massive pressure but a different one. Spurs are bottom. They are fighting for something that wasn’t expected at the beginning of the season,” he noted.

He also pointed to the low goal tally as a concern. “It’s tough to see the team struggling that much. This is not the place you want to see Spurs. It’s not a position you want to see, scoring only three goals,” Ginola stated, as reported by Football London. A win against Coventry was seen as an opportunity to move out of the drop zone.
