Jenna Ortega's Influence Shapes 'Wednesday' Season 3 Shifts
New details confirm 'Wednesday' Season 3 will move beyond Nevermore Academy and reframe romantic storylines, driven in part by Jenna Ortega's creative

Production for the third season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday is currently underway, with new details emerging about significant shifts in its storyline and setting. The upcoming season is expected to move beyond the familiar halls of Nevermore Academy, a change influenced in part by lead actress Jenna Ortega, who also serves as an executive producer on the show.

First premiering in November 2022, Wednesday quickly became a global phenomenon, breaking Netflix English-language viewership records. The series stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, whose deadpan performance and iconic dance sequence contributed to its widespread success, as reported by Inside the Magic.

Season 3 Plot Takes New Directions

The third season is poised to explore new territories, quite literally. An April press release from Netflix, shared by Inside the Magic, included a photograph of Ortega against a Parisian Eiffel Tower backdrop, hinting at a departure from Nevermore’s gothic setting. This structural shift is expected to send Wednesday well outside her usual environment to resolve storylines left hanging from the second season.

One such storyline involves the search for Wednesday’s werewolf friend and roommate, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), who risked an eternal transformation into an alpha wolf at the close of Season 2. While many viewers might have assumed Enid was permanently transformed, set photos from earlier this year confirm her return in human form, complete with her signature blue-and-pink-dyed hair. This suggests Season 3 will focus on controlling Enid’s abilities and her eventual return to Nevermore, rather than reversing a permanent change, according to Inside the Magic. Additionally, the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Wednesday’s maternal Aunt Ophelia Frump, portrayed by new cast member Eva Green, is expected to become central to the new storyline, as noted by Analytics Insight.

Jenna Ortega’s Creative Influence Shapes Storylines

Jenna Ortega has played an increasing role in the creative direction of Wednesday. From Season 2 onwards, she gained greater involvement in the creative process as an executive producer. This influence has notably steered the series away from conventional romantic subplots.

Ortega previously expressed concerns about a love triangle storyline in Season 1, telling Vanity Fair and the Armchair Expert podcast that elements of it “did not make sense for her character at all.” She admitted to being “almost unprofessional” on set in her efforts to push back on scripted moments that she felt diverged from Wednesday’s character. She later reflected on these comments, saying she “probably could have used my words better.” The series has since leaned further into darker material, moving away from the Season 1 love triangle that involved Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White).

While Percy Hynes White did not return as Xavier Thorpe for Season 2, following sexual misconduct allegations he denied, an “unspoken” connection between Wednesday and Tyler Galpin remains, according to showrunner Alfred Gough, as reported by Disney Fanatic. However, Ortega’s prior statements indicate that a traditional romantic relationship for Wednesday is unlikely to be a major focus in Season 3. The series appears set to explore Wednesday’s family, friendships, mysteries, and personal growth, allowing the character to remain “complicated enough on her own.”

Cast and Production Details

Production for Wednesday Season 3 officially commenced near Dublin in February 2026. Jenna Ortega is confirmed to reprise her role, alongside returning cast members Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, and Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair. The expanding cast also includes new additions such as Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, Kennedy Moyer, Lena Headey, and Andrew McCarthy, with Eva Green joining as Aunt Ophelia Frump.

While Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for Season 3, external reports suggest the series could potentially return in late 2027 or by summer 2027.
